Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened

-Anatole France

Saying goodbye to an animal companion can be one of the most difficult experiences of someone’s life. The bond we have with our animals is unique with many positive benefits for our health and well-being. Losing a beloved companion can feel similar to losing a best friend or other family member. We understand the human-animal bond and consider it a privilege to help you through this process with compassion, grace, and without judgment.

Services

Quality of Life Consultation / Palliative Care Options

Often it isn't easy to know when the right time is to say goodbye to your animal companion. Other times you may need recommendations in managing their final phase of life. We can help you through this process and assess their quality of life. We offer palliative (comfort care) options and work with your current veterinarian at your request.

As medical professionals, even we have struggled with knowing when the right time was to let our companions go. Sometimes it is difficult to “see” what others do when we have such an emotional and deep investment in our bond with our companion.

We offer educated and experienced guidance to help you feel comfortable with the decisions you make

Euthanasia

After the difficult decision to end a companion’s life has been made we arrive at your home and discuss the euthanasia process as well as answer any further questions you may have.

An injectable sedative is then given, usually under the skin. Once the sedative has fully taken effect, in approximately 10 minutes, and your companion appears deeply asleep and unaware, a separate injection is given to cause a loss of all body activity.

The entire process takes approximately 1 hour.

The cost for an in-home euthanasia in the Seattle area is $475.

Cremation

To be as environmentally responsible and respectful as possible we use a water-based cremation process called Aquamation.

Your companion can be transported for cremation. If you choose Communal Cremation ashes will not be returned. With Individual Aquamation ashes will be returned to you in a scatter vessel. You can request specialized urns or memorial items for an additional cost.

Ink paw prints and fur clippings are available at no additional charge.

We use Resting Waters for all cremation services.

A Peaceful Parting was originally the business name owned by Dr. Mary Pittari. A fierce lover of cats, she was an advocate for their health and well-being until their final days. Dr. Mary had an infectious laugh and a keen wit. She could light up the room with her beautiful smile.

Unfortunately, ovarian cancer took her from her passions much too soon. We hope to carry on with her belief that all creatures deserve dignity, respect, and good care not only throughout their lives but especially at the end of their journey here on Earth.
